Before proceeding to the actual procedure mentioned in the next page, follow all the list of quick pre requisites below to facilitate smoother firmware update.
Note: Applying this firmware update won’t root the device / void the warranty in any manner. Also, this firmware should only be applied to Galaxy GRAND device and not for Galaxy GRAND Quattro.
Quick Pre Requisites:
  • All the data in your Samsung Galaxy GRAND smartphone should be backed up with the help of below mentioned steps. Don’t backup with the help of KIES as it may not help you restore the data back.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,
Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,
Call Log - Call Log and Restore
Images, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,
APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names
  • From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging” enable the SUB Debugging Mode. Minimum charge left in your phone is 30% or else there is a risk of device getting turned off in the middle of firmware update increases which may even brick your Galaxy Grand.
Procedure to Update Galaxy GRAND smartphone
  • Download the Jellybean 4.2.2 Firmware Package and Odin from here to your computer. Once downloaded, extract both the files in your computer and extract open Odin in your computer. In Odin, enable Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options by selecting the check boxes. But the Re-Partition check box must not be selected or checked.
  • The Galaxy GRAND smartphone can be entered into the Download mode by holding the Volume Down button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, you need to switch ON your device. If the device enters in the normal mode, then you will have to re try the process of entering the device in the Download Mode.
  • Once the phone gets into the Download Mode, plug your phone to computer using original USB cable to make sure that ID: COM section turns Yellow or Blue indicating that all the drivers are installed successfully.
  • Click on “PDA” tab in Odin to select the tar file which you got after extracting the firmware package and click on “Start” in Odin for starting the process of firmware update. Once you have clicked on the same, you need to wait for around 3 -4 minutes for the update process to get completed.
Note: If the device gets into the boot loop sequence or say gets stuck in the welcome screen, just re insert the battery and re follow the above instructions so as to again follow the above mentioned instructions.
