Before starting the flashing process you should be checking the guidelines below:
  • use this guide only with the Samsung Galaxy J7 2016 models.
    – check the model of your phone under Settings> About Phone.
    – make sure that the SM – J700FN model is listed.
    – do not attempt to update any other different Android devices with the files that you will find in this post.
  • you can flash the Samsung USB drivers for your PC from here.
    – the usb drivers are going to allow your computer to detect the phone through the ODIN app.
    – Odin is a small tool designed to help Samsung upgrade their phones manually.
    – for Odin to work on your device you will need to install the usb drivers and for the USB Debugging option to be enabled from your phone’s Developer Options section.
    – the Developer Options might be hidden: go to Settings> About Phone and tap 7 times consecutively on the Build Number section.
    – return to Settings, scroll down there you will find it, open Developer Options and there you should find USB Debugging to enable it, too.
  • in case you want to flash the Android 6.0.1 update with Odin over rooted firmware, then you should know that root access won’t survive the update.
    – any custom Recovery that you might have installed is going to be replaced with stock Recovery.
  • if you have installed a custom ROM on your phone, then the update through ODIN can be applied, but you have to Factory Reset its system partition.
    – the Factory Reset steps are listed at the end of this article and you should apply them after the update is done installing.
    – Factory Resetting the phone is going to wipe clean the system partition removing the custom ROM, while the data stored on the internal storage will be left unchanged.
  • in case your device is now sporting 100% stock Android firmware you can continue right to the installation steps below, as no files will be lost in the process.
  • remember that the tutorial should be applied by advanced users only, we cannot be blamed in case you brick the phone nor in case you lose any important data files in the process.
    – read the whole post and do not skip any steps.
  • check the battery charge level of your phone and make sure that there is at least 50% charge left before it switches off completely.

Since you’ve read all of the above you can continue to the next part of this post.
If you don’t want to install the update manually, then you should wait until Samsung pushes the new update in your region over-the-air. You can also check for new Android firmware files by going to Settings> About Phone> Software Update menu.
Steps:>>>>>Steps>>>>Steps>>>>
  1. Download the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow firmware archive fromhere.
  2. When the download is done you can extract the archived contents from the downloaded file.
    – you should obtain the Android 6.0.1 J710FXXU1APG5 tar.md5 file.
    – do not extract the tar.md5 archive.
  3. Download Odin 3.10.7 from here.
    – when the download is done you can unzip the Odin contents.
  4. Power off the phone.
  5. Next, boot the Galaxy J7 in Download Mode.
    – Volume Down + Home + Power buttons at the same time.
    – release the buttons when the Warning screen loads, then press Volume Up to confirm Download Mode boot.
  6. Launch the Odin exe on your computer.
  7. Connect your phone to PC via usb cable.
    – wait for Odin to detect the Galaxy J7.
    – if the phone is not recognized you should try to reinstall the Samsung usb drivers once more.
  8. Return to Odin click the OPTIONS tab. Make sure that ‘Re-Partition’ option is disabled.
    – don’t edit other default Odin settings.
  9. Now, click the AP button in ODIN.
    – find and load the Android 6.0.1 J710FXXU1APG5 tar.md5 firmware file.
  10. Load it in ODIN and then press START to begin the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow installation.
    – don’t press any buttons until the new update is done.
  11. When the Android 6.0.1 is installed you can see the PASS alert shown in ODIN, and the phone rebooting in normal mode.
    – the first boot process of this new firmware is going to take awhile to complete, which is why you have to wait until the “optimizing apps” screen loads.
  12. Unplug the phone from PC and then use your default login info in order to regain complete control over your device once again.
These were all the steps that you had to take in order to finish installing the Android 6.0.1 software update manually for your Galaxy J7 device.
If you can’t complete the update manually, then it would be best for you to check the extra info listed below.
NOTE1:
If the FAIL alert is shown by ODIN, but your phone enters in a boot loop or it gets stuck at the boot animation screen, then you will be forced to repeat the entire Android 6.0.1 installation more than once.
NOTE2:
If the PASS message is shown by Odin, but your phone enters in a boot loop or it gets stuck at the boot animation screen for more than 20 minutes, then you will be forced to factory reset your device’s system partition.
The ‘Factory Reset’ steps below should be applied by those that have installed the Android 6.0.1 update over custom ROMs, too. Factory Resetting the phone won’t remove any data from your internal storage.
Here’s how to factory reset the device:
  • power off the phone..
  • boot it in Recovery Mode.
    – Volume Up + Home + Power at the same time.
  • release the buttons when the Recovery Mode menu loads.
  • select the ‘wipe data/ factory reset’ process.
  • confirm.
  • reboot your phone in normal mode.
