Fully working Cyanogen Mod 11 along with the latest Kitkat 4.4 android firmware can now be installed in the Galaxy S3 Mini phone. This new firmware comes with the So after checking out the quick list of pre requisites mentioned below, let’s proceed to check out on what are the detailed instructions with which you can update the device with this latest firmware.
Quick Pre Requisites:
- Since this is the custom ROM firmware, you will have to make sure that your Galaxy S3 Mini is rooted or not. To check on whether your device is rooted or not, you will have to download the “Root Checker” app from the Google PLAY Store.
- Assuming that your Galaxy S3 Mini Android phone is rooted, you now need to take the back up of your device data with the help of below mentioned steps manually and not with the automated tools like KIES.
SMS – Use “SMS Backup & Restore app”,Contacts – Sync with the Gmail application,Call Log - Call Log and RestoreImages, Songs, Videos, Files – Copy to internal / External SD Card,APN and MMS Settings – Note down from the path “Applications > Settings > Wireless and Network > Mobile Networks > Access Point Names”
- From the path “Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging”, enable the USB Debugging, ensure that the USB debugging option is ticked. Battery left in your device should be a minimum of 30%. Your computer should have Read / Write access.

Procedure to Update Galaxy S3 Mini with KitKat 4.4 Cyanogen Mod 11 Firmware:
- Download the latest Cyanogen Mod 11 Firmware Package from here to your computer. Once downloaded, connect your device to the computer with the original USB cable and place the zip file in your device’s internal memory.
- Once you have placed the file in your Galaxy S3 Mini, disconnect the device from computer and download the ROM Manager app from the Google PLAY Store. Now, select “reboot into recovery mode” for booting the device in the recovery mode. You can also enter the device into the recovery mode manually with the help of below mentioned step.
- Recovery mode in Galaxy S3 Mini can be entered by holding the Volume Up button + the Home key button (the middle button). While holding these both buttons, turn ON your device. Now, in the recovery mode you will have to select “Wipe data/factory reset” & “Wipe Cache partition” so that all the data can be cleared in the device.
- Select “install zip from SD Card” in the recovery mode to choose the zip file which you have placed in your device for installing the update. Once selected, the update process will be completed within 4 -5 minutes.
Please note that it may take around 3 -4 minutes for applying the update. Once the device is booted, you then will have to follow the on screen instructions for setting up the device.
Note: If the device gets into the boot loop sequence or say gets stuck in the welcome screen, just re insert the battery and re follow the above instructions so as to again follow the above mentioned instructions.
